I listened to a terrifying episode of Darknet Diaries this week where a developer, Connor Tumbleson explained how their identity was stolen by some form of grifting company that created a fake Upwork profile pretending to be them. They then proceeded to hire freelancers to pretend to be Connor in interviews…

It’s all very weird and I urge you to listen to the episode and/or read their great blog post on the matter.

I can’t believe I have to even write this, but if you ever find my profile on Upwork — or any other freelancer hiring sites — it’s 100% not me and never will be. Definitely triple check before hiring on such sites would be my advice.
